Rufiji River & Nyerere Dam · Mobile Expedition
About This Camp
Welcome to the most immersive tigerfish experience on the Rufiji system : a mobile fly camp that moves with the fish.
Rafuji Fly Camp is not a fixed lodge. It is a lightweight, expedition-style operation designed for anglers who want to go deeper. You'll fish the Rufiji River and the Nyerere dam, moving camp along the river corridor to stay close to the action. Each night you sleep out in remote bush camps set up on the banks, with nothing between you and the water but firelight and the sound of the river.
This is stripped-back, frontier fishing at its best. No fences, no fixed itineraries : just you, your guide, and miles of productive water that most anglers will never see. The mobile format means you're always on fresh fish, covering sections of river that static lodges simply cannot reach.
If you've fished lodges before and want something rawer, closer to the water, and completely off the grid : this is it. Rafuji Fly Camp is for anglers who measure a trip by the fishing, not the thread count.

On the Water
The Rufiji below Stiegler's Gorge is wide, powerful, and unpredictable. Large tigerfish averaging 3–6kg hold in the deep pools and sandbar channels that form at the river bends : your guide has spent years learning exactly where they sit at every water level.
Surface lures at first light are devastating : a popper worked hard across a shallow channel at dawn routinely draws multiple follows and explosive takes. As the day heats up, switch to streamers fished deep in the mid-channel pools where the larger fish rest out of the current.
The Nyerere Dam adds a second dimension to the trip : the flooded river channels and creek arms of the impoundment hold tigerfish, vundu catfish, and Nile perch in raw, untouched water that few anglers have ever accessed.
The mobile camp format means you never fish the same water twice. Each morning, you wake on a new section of river. No other camp in the Rufiji system covers this much ground.
